According to the African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), 11,088 new cases of covid-19 have been recorded in the organization's 55 member states in the past 24 hours.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 3,692,992 have been recovered, a figure revised downwards by Africa CDC, which the previous day had recorded 3,749,809 recovered.
Southern Africa continues to be the most affected region, with 1,904,971 infected and 59,791 killed by contagion with the disease. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, has 1,545,431 cases and 52,663 deaths.
North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,236,791 infected and 35,570 fatalities.
East Africa accounts for 488,691 infections and 8,840 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 431,046 and that of deaths is 5642. Central Africa has 125,628 cases and 2076 deaths.
Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 11,882 deaths and 200,050 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8798 deaths and 494,659 cases.
Among the countries most affected are also Tunisia, with 8735 deaths and 250,565 cases, Algeria, with 3080 deaths and 116,744 infected, and Ethiopia, with 2801 fatalities and 200,563 infections.
Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique records 764 deaths and 67,197 cases, followed by Angola (533 deaths and 22,063 cases of infection), Cape Verde (165 deaths and 17,125 cases), Equatorial Guinea (102 deaths and 6914 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (61 dead and 3630 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (34 dead and 2196 cases).
