Government to buy Russian vaccine against covid-19 for 111 million dollars

The government will acquire six million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine, produced in Russia, for US $ 111 million, according to a presidential decree published in Diário da República.

The Minister of Health will be responsible for "verifying the legality of all subsequent acts in the act of proceeding until the formation and execution of the contract" and the Minister of Finance "must ensure the availability of financial resources".

In addition to Sputnik, Angola has already received more than 600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca / Oxford vaccine, under the Covax initiative, with delivery of about 2.5 million doses expected by mid-2021.

On Thursday, Angola received 200,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine, from the Beijing Biological Institute, donated by the Government of China and which will be distributed in some provinces of the country.

Angola has 111,231 people immunized since the vaccination started on 2 March.

In total, the country counts 22,063 infections per covid-19, of which 533 deaths, 20,289 data as recovered, and 1241 active (of which nine are in critical condition and seven are serious).

The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 2,756,395 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 125.4 million cases of infection, according to a report made by the French agency AFP.
