Africa records 103,712 dead and nearly 3.9 million infected with covid-19

Africa reports a total of 103,712 deaths due to covid-19 and 3,897,390 cases of infection with the new coronavirus, according to the latest official pandemic data on the continent.

According to the African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the total number of recovered people in the organization's 55 member states is 3,476,050 since the pandemic began.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,834,839 infected and 56,418 killed. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, records 1,513,393 cases and 49,993 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,162,942 infected and 32,924 fatalities.

East Africa accounts for 405,808 infections and 7581 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 389,813 and that of deaths is 4994.

Central Africa has 103,988 cases and 1795 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 10,688 deaths and 182,424 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8623 fatalities and 483,654 cases.

Among the countries most affected are also Tunisia, which has passed eight thousand deaths (8001) and affects 233,277 cases of infection accumulated since the beginning of the pandemic; Algeria, with 2985 dead and 113,000 infected, and Ethiopia, with 2365 fatalities and 159,072 infections.

In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique records 641 deaths and 59,350 cases, followed by Angola (508 deaths and 20,807 cases of infection), Cape Verde (147 deaths and 15,400 cases), Equatorial Guinea (88 deaths and 5747 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (48 dead and 3262 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (29 killed and 1786 cases).
