Country adopts new driving licence model. Change should arrive later this year

The country will have a new driving licence later this year. The new model will bring greater security and quality to the document, revealed the commander of the National Police, Paulo Almeida.

According to Paulo Almeida, commander of the National Police, all measures are being taken by the Ministry of the Interior - which leads the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety of the National Police - so that the new letters come into force later this year.

Paulo Almeida also said that this change will increase the safety and quality of the licence: "This year, everything is being done to change the driving licence and issue the single vehicle identification document. The model has already been designed and we will take it to the approval of the competent entities and we believe that it will be still this year", said the responsible.

In the country, the driving licenses, booklets and license plates are issued by the National Police, however, the responsible has made it clear that it is necessary to change it, writes Novo Jornal.

He also stressed that in many countries this document is already issued by public or private entities, thus allowing the police to take care of the prevention and supervision of drivers.

"The police have the mission to supervise and control the traffic planning. This is the task of the police and not to issue such documents. We have to evolve and stop being tied to certain taboos that no longer adapt to the organizational evolution of the modern world," he said.
