TAAG is said to be unable to meet pilots' salary requirements

TAAG reported this Friday that "it does not have the financial capacity to carry out any salary readjustments, as the company's pilots claim".

:

In a press release, to which the Lusa agency had access, the airline states that a readjustment at this time, both in the base salary and in the various remuneration components, could "put at risk the survival of the company, since these adjustments in reality configure real salary increases, unaffordable by its treasury".

This is TAAG's response to the Airline Pilots Union, which requests the salary review of this class of workers of the company, in an increase equivalent in kwanzas to 3800 dollars whose implementation they demand for this month, based on an agreement of 2013.

The TAAG administration stresses that, over the years, "it has never been unaware of the concerns and needs of the various classes, including that of the PNT (Technical Navigational Staff)", and has always responded by carrying out the readjustments of all compensation components within the financial capacity at its disposal".

"On the other hand, TAAG has made efforts to dignify the class and raise personal integrity in the face of the difficulties and reality of our country. This effort is clearly identified if we compare the current conditions and their evolution with those contained in the Labour Agreement, signed in 2005, in a clear demonstration of the legitimate recognition of the claims expressed", reads the document.

According to the company, the 20 per cent increase proposed and implemented in February of this year was the result of the financial impact studies carried out and with reference to the inflation index which was 17.5 per cent, "constituting an enormous effort in the company's capacities".

The company stresses that this increase did not include the Board of Directors, and that although the responsibilities of the pilots are different from those of the others, "it is the effort of the universe of workers in their most distinct functions that makes the achievement of TAAG's corporate purpose, as a company in the aviation transport business, a reality".

The airline's management stresses that the fact that TAAG has updated ticket prices, in parallel with the depreciation of the kwanza, stems from the obligation to do so under the tariff agreements concluded with IATA (International Air Transport Association).

"This apparent advantage is consumed by the real need to meet the operating costs in foreign currency, which correspond to 80 percent of its total costs, not allowing any indexation of wages to the dollar," adds the note.

According to TAAG, the financial reality of the company, as well as the restructuring it needs in order to maintain it, sustainability and profitability, is known to the Pilots' Union.

"The document states that 'the process of restructuring and the cross-cutting nature of wage adjustments increasingly require the commitment of all TAAG's employees', stressing that 'TAAG's decision is based on the financial recovery and maintenance of the company as a commercial company on the way to privatisation, even though it is still exclusively publicly owned'.

Finally, TAAG to the understanding and support of the Airline Pilots Union, as a social partner for the recovery and maintenance of the company, reiterated the commitment to permanent dialogue with the trade unionists, "in the search for understandings that satisfy both parties".
