National mask producer says it has “enough raw material” for demand

The company Civep Contraven Angola, with daily production of close to a thousand hospital masks, said this Friday that "there is still no great demand" for the material, ensuring that it has "enough raw material" to respond to the possible demand due to the new coronavirus.

According to António Ribeiro, manager of the company, a producer of home and hospital textiles, the factory "is not concerned with the demand for masks", because "it is still low", with only one customer connected to the health sector.

"In terms of looking for masks, we have a company that buys and we don't worry too much, because we don't have great demand except this customer who is connected to health and if the demand increases we have a way out," he said in statements to Lusa .

The official said that if there is an increase in demand, Contraven will work to respond in order to ensure that this protective material is not scarce.

"As long as we have raw material, we will manufacture it, because, fortunately, we still have raw material for this type of fabric", he observed.

With 12 years of activity in Angola, in addition to masks, whose daily production is around 700, the firm also produces suits, sheets and hospital pillows, among others.

Protective masks, alcohol gel, soap and gloves are among the authorities' recommendations as means of protection for the new coronavirus, whose new epicenter is Europe, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Angola, without a record of confirmed cases from Covid-19, reinforces prevention and epidemiological surveillance measures, especially in the country's 32 official entry points.
