Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry wants to be a response to a time of crisis

The Angolan Minister of Economy and Planning said this Thursday that the constitution of a Federation of Angolan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, with partners from several foreign countries, means “union” to respond to the moment of crisis.

Sérgio Santos was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the governing bodies of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Angola (FCCIA), chaired by Nelson dos Santos, of the Angola-Spain Chamber of Business, assisted by Sebastião Francisco, of the Chamber of Commerce and Angola-Turkey industry.

According to the government official, in times of crisis, the solution is to create a more “sense of unity” and structure ideas in a coherent way and move on to new ideas that can maintain growth.

“This is what we are asking entrepreneurs to do. The moment of constitution of this federation is a very important moment and the expected response to a crisis that has already been announced ”, he advocated.

For the minister, the union of entrepreneurs will also help us to find “paths with the Government”, in order to “avoid job losses”, the contraction of the economy and look “inside” the economy.

The minister called on businessmen to look at opportunities within the Angolan economy, to be able to attract partners, create new ideas and synergies.

"This is what we hope that the federation and the direction that will be installed will be able to do, with our support and that of the various members of the various chambers that will join", he said.

Speaking to the media, Sérgio Santos recalled that the economy in recent years has suffered a deep recession, causing the loss of many jobs and the closure of many companies.

In turn, the president of the Angola-China Chamber of Commerce, Manuel Arnaldo Calado, said, in statements to the Lusa agency, that the objective of creating this federation is to bring together and facilitate the lives of businessmen.

Manuel Arnaldo Calado stressed that there are several business associations, which have the support of the State, but the union between these organizations benefits the country at a time when the world is going through yet another crisis.

"As I said, the world will never be the same after the coronavirus, so we need to find different strategies and one of these is unity, we need to pull everyone to the same side and this is the federation's mission", he stressed.

With 26 affiliates, the FCCIA appears to bring together entrepreneurs, ideas, knowledge and experiences, added the businessman.

“The federation brings together chambers, which are privileged to have relations with other countries that already have experiences, studies made from past situations, have knowledge, these are the experiences that these chambers can bring. But they cannot bring one by one, if they can bring them all together to present proposals to the executive, we will certainly be of value ”, he stressed.

Asked to comment on the controversy surrounding the emergence of this federation, whose name is contested by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Angola, Manuel Arnaldo Calado devalued the matter.

"I can't honestly find where the problem is," said the president of the Angola-China Chamber of Commerce, stressing that "who gives the denominations" is the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.

“And we have the name given by the Ministry of Justice, it is in the Diário da República, it is registered, it is registered, the other chamber also has it, therefore, I see no problems, one is a federation of chambers of commerce and industry, the other is chamber of commerce and industry, for me it is not a problem ”, he concluded.

A note from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Angola (CCIA) states that the name of the federation is “creating confusion or inducing, deliberately or not, several natural and legal persons, due to the similarity of the denomination and / or nature of different institutions ”.

For the CCIA, the name of the federation is creating confusion in associates and companies that assume that there has been an evolution from the CCIA, Provincial Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Municipal Chambers of Commerce and Industry, to a new entity.

The CCIA argues that to remove confusion, the name of the federation should include the word "bilateral", to signal "clearly" the difference between the first association and the new one, taking into account that it is a federation made up of bilateral chambers of commerce. .

“We want to emphasize that, we are not against the emergence of the federation in question, as an entity related to the private sector, on the contrary, we encourage joint work, the sharing of ideas, the exchange of experiences in an organized, structured and systematized way . However, we make it clear that any new entity should not create confusion or mislead people any more than it should cause a waste of time and energy ”, the note reads.
