Speaking in Luanda, after a meeting at the Presidential Palace, the Cape Verdean parliamentary leader congratulated the head of state, who has just assumed the presidency of the African Union, for his role in promoting peace and stability in Africa, stressing that Angola has a positive impact on African countries.
Austelino Correia expressed "great hope" in Angola's presidency of the African Union, praising President João Lourenço for his role "in promoting peace, healthy coexistence and political stability" on the African continent.
"Therefore, we believe that his presidency will have a positive impact on African countries, especially those where we have seen signs of political instability and conflict", the politician stressed.
Austelino Correia also stressed that the countries of the Portuguese-speaking bloc have played an important role in promoting peace, through the regional and international organisations of which they are members.
"I can speak here about the CPLP (...) we have been playing a very important role, both at the level of heads of state and at the level of the CPLP Parliamentary Assembly. We have debated issues related to democracy, stability, the democratic rule of law, and human dignity. Therefore, all of this is aimed at healthy coexistence, peace, tranquility and, ultimately, the happiness of our peoples," he said.
He also highlighted the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), an organization that is the main parliamentary interlocutor at the United Nations, of which both countries are members and which also intervenes in the promotion of peace and sustainable development.
