Constitutional Court legalizes Partido Liberal

Angola's Constitutional Court (TC) has legalized the Partido Liberal (PL), led by Luís Castro, thus becoming the 14th legalized political party, it was announced this Tuesday.

According to a note from the TC, the presiding judge, Laurinda Cardoso, approved the legalization of the new party after having received the documents required for its registration, specifically, the statutes, the program, the identification elements, as well as the minimum number of signatures from citizens. applicants, in accordance with the Political Parties Law.

Led by Huambo social activist Euclides Luís de Castro, the PL submitted the application for registration of its installation committee in May 2024.

In a note published on its Facebook page, the PL highlights the approval as “an important milestone, as it inserts a new political force into the democratic game”.

“Luís de Castro’s leadership promises a reformist and liberal discourse, which could impact the next elections and the existing party dynamics,” says the party, which is now officially beginning its political journey.

The PL is the first party to be legalized in 2025.

After the legalization of Abel Chivukuvku's PRA-JÁ Servir Angola in October 2024, the country currently has 14 political parties: MPLA, UNITA, FNLA, PRS, PDP-ANA, PADDA-AP, PALMA -NOVA ANGOLA, PNSA, PPA, BD, PHA, CIDADANIA, PRA-JA SERVIR ANGOLA and Partido Liberal.
