Cholera has killed 180 people since January in nearly 5,000 cases

Cholera in Angola has killed 180 people since January 7, when the outbreak was declared, now reaching 4,914 cases in 12 provinces, with Uige joining the list of affected regions.

According to the Ministry of Health, 197 more cases were reported over the weekend (92 on Saturday and 105 on Sunday), and patients were reported in Uíge for the first time.

Cases were also identified in Luanda, Bengo, Icolo and Bengo, Malanje, Cabinda, Huila, Cuanza Norte, Cuanza Sul, Huambo, Cunene and Zaire.

There were 14 deaths in the last 48 hours (eight on Saturday and six on Sunday).

Since the beginning of the outbreak, there have been 180 deaths, of which 84 in the province of Luanda, 71 in the province of Bengo, 19 in Icolo and Bengo, three in Malanje, two in Cuanza Sul and one in Cabinda.

The most affected age group is 2 to 5 years old, with 755 cases and 28 deaths, followed by the 10 to 14 year old group, with 614 cases and 12 deaths.

Cholera is an infectious disease associated with poor hygiene conditions and poor water supply and sanitation.
