Sebastião Gaspar Martins spoke about the results achieved by the company in 2024, during a ceremony as part of the 49th anniversary that Sonangol celebrates this Tuesday.
"(We have indications) that it is to remain", following what is decided in terms of the company's strategy, "but (these shares) have yielded positive results, we have no doubts", said the president of the national oil company, recalling that BCP has distributed dividends, as has Galp.
"For us it continues to be an asset to keep, we see no reason to leave it", said Sebastião Martins, referring to "difficult times" experienced "in the particular case of BCP", whose shares reached a minimum value of a few cents "close to zero", but have been increasing in value, reaching 0.57 euro cents today.
"No company that wants to have any revenue can afford to get rid of this asset, therefore, it remains strategic", stressed Sebastião Gaspar Martins.
Sonangol holds an indirect stake in the Portuguese oil company through Amorim Energia, which controls 36.7 percent of Galp's capital, and is BCP's second-largest shareholder, with a 19.49 percent stake.
Regarding the announcement made this Tuesday by Galp of yet another oil discovery in the neighboring Republic of Namibia, Sebastião Martins said that Sonangol has been following what is being done, which "has served to increase Galp's value".
"And if there are investment needs, it (Galp) will approach the shareholders to see what kind of needs it will have," he pointed out.
In turn, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, said that there is investment in Angola's upstream and he hopes that the discoveries in Namibia "some will result in projects".
"I am happy that this happens, that some of them result in projects, because you know that not everything will result in projects, so let's not be so euphoric either, let's hope that there is some success as is usual in this industry so that our brothers in Namibia also benefit from it and we can also benefit", he stressed.
Diamantino Azevedo said that Angola has been working with Namibia so that the Angolan experience can be taken to the neighboring country, "but in economic terms" for the good of the country.
"Their success will be good for us too, but here in our country there have also been investments," he reinforced.
