FPSO Agogo vessel baptized and expected to start operating at the end of this year

The FPSO Agogo vessel was baptized this Thursday in Shanghai, China, with the ceremony marking a strategic advance for Angola's energy sector. According to the Secretary of State for Oil and Gas, the project, scheduled to start operating at the end of this year, “reflects Angola’s strategic vision for partnerships that prioritize technology transfer, the development of local content and environmental management”.

On the occasion, the Secretary of State for Oil and Gas, José Alexandre Barroso, also said that "critical components" of the project were produced in Angola, proving the commitment to strengthening "local industry and promoting self-sufficiency".

"The Agogo Integrated Project reflects Angola's strategic vision for partnerships that prioritize technology transfer, local content development and environmental management. Critical components of this project were manufactured in Angolan shipyards – a concrete proof of our commitment to strengthening local industry and promoting self-sufficiency," he said, quoted in a statement sent to VerAngola.

In turn, Adriano Mongini, CEO of Azule Energy, considered that the completion of the project "several months ahead of schedule" reinforces the company's "project execution capacity", adding that this milestone will maximize the reserves of block 15/06: "The completion of the FPSO Agogo several months ahead of schedule reinforces Azule Energy's project execution capacity, and the perfect synergy between all stakeholders. This milestone will maximize the reserves of block 15/06, including the mature fields in the area, more quickly and profitably".

According to the statement, this Thursday, the National Agency of Oil, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG), Azule Energy and the partners of block 15/06 (Sonangol Exploration and Production, Sinopec and NAMCOR) celebrated, in China, the baptism ceremony of the aforementioned ship.

The event, which "marks a strategic advance for the Angolan energy sector, aiming to strengthen the country's oil production capacity, with a focus on innovation and sustainability", was attended by representatives of the Government, ANPG, as well as members of the Angolan diplomatic corps in China, partners of block 15/06, shareholders of Azule Energy and contractors.

"The FPSO Agogo is part of the West Hub Agogo Integrated Development Project, which aims to develop the two most important discoveries in Block 15/06, the Agogo and Ndungu fields, significantly increasing production in the block," reads the note, which adds that "the project also boosts the growth of the national economy, reinforces Angolan technical capacity and strengthens the local value chain, aligning with the government's priorities in socioeconomic development".

According to the statement, "the FPSO is scheduled to start operating at the end of 2025, six months before the start date of the FID".

The project stands out for integrating "innovative low-carbon solutions, positioning Angola as a reference in sustainable energy projects", and among the "energy efficiency initiatives" stand out combined cycle energy generation, carbon capture and storage, energy efficiency systems and emissions management.

"These technologies will significantly reduce the project's environmental footprint, aligning with the goals of energy transition and diversification of the national energy matrix," the note also points out.
