In a statement to which VerAngola had access, EPAL repudiated the vandalism.
"EPAL - Empresa Pública de Águas hereby expresses its vehement repudiation of the act of vandalism that recently occurred in the Bita neighborhood, in the raw water transport pipeline that feeds the Kilamba Water Treatment Plant," reads the note.
The company also warns that this type of practice harms both public assets and the quality of services provided to citizens.
"This act of destruction not only damages public property, but also affects the quality of services provided to the population, compromising everyone's well-being," says, adding that "vandalism is an irresponsible and destructive attitude that compromises resources intended for the benefit of society and the proper functioning of institutions."
According to EPAL, "the repair of the vandalized equipment will force the Kilamba Water Treatment Plant to shut down and consequently deprive the water supply in the city center and surrounding areas."
The company also said it reinforced its commitment to "working to guarantee the integrity of facilities and services", calling on all citizens to join forces in "preserving and respecting public assets, which is fundamental to the development of a more just and supportive society".
