"Man Genas", who had already served a prison sentence for drug trafficking, denounced on social media the alleged involvement of senior figures from the national police and the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in drug trafficking networks, in February 2023.
Shortly afterwards, accompanied by his wife and two children, he decided to leave Angola due to alleged "pressure from the authorities" and out of fear for his life, taking refuge in Mozambique.
The Mozambican authorities ended up administratively expelling the couple and their children "for illegally staying in the country".
Speaking to Lusa, a SIC source indicated that "Man Genas" is under arrest, promising to later provide clarification on the reasons for the detention.
Another Angolan citizen, Higino Duarte Regal, also known as Carlos Eduardo Monteiro, was also subject to administrative expulsion last Sunday.
The man was arrested in Maputo, on December 21 last year, in compliance with an international warrant issued by the Angolan authorities, according to a document from the Public Ministry to which Lusa had access.
Higino Regal had escaped from an Angolan prison, where he was serving a sentence for drug trafficking, in 2017.
