According to a press release from SIC, the 44-year-old Chinese citizen was arrested in flagrante delicto, after having traveled to Angola to ensure the travel of Angolan citizens who were recruited through a WhatsApp messaging network group called "VEM EMIGRAR 2023 PORTUGAL", with promises of work abroad.
The matter came to the attention of the authorities through the denunciation of relatives of one of the victims, a 29-year-old man, who managed to escape from the hands of the criminal network, in the People's Republic of Laos.
According to preliminary data, the recruiting company has no representation in Angola and is identified by "Guojin Technology", supposedly located in the city of Bokoe, in Laos.
"The scheme, which starts with attractive salary proposals of up to 1500 dollars for jobs as a call center operator, has as its preference young people between 22 and 35 years old, recent graduates, medium and senior technicians, who speak fluent English and have computer skills. It is nothing more than a dream, as the end is the exploitation of work or other crimes, with unpredictable outcomes", stresses the SIC document.
Investigations revealed that two more citizens, aged 30 and 31, had already received visas and tickets for the Luanda/Dubai-Dubai/Laos itinerary, scheduled for January 31, with the SIC having frustrated the departure of themselves and detained in flagrante delicto one of the members of the criminal network, while checking their documentation in a hotel unit.
"Given the seriousness of the facts, the citizen in question received an arrest warrant, was presented to the Public Prosecutor's Office, which applied the most serious measure of personal coercion, that of preventive detention, while other steps are being taken to clarify this crime", reads up on the note.
