A note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Angola states that Téte António and Martha Pobee paid particular attention to issues in the Great Lakes region, examining the various existing mechanisms in the African sub-region, within the scope of a strategic vision and engagement of the Nations Nations on issues of peace and security in the region.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the need for existing conflicts to end "that all parties involved are imbued with the same spirit and walk hand in hand, looking for solutions for lasting peace on the continent, thinking about the trilogy of peace, development and human rights, so that African populations can fully benefit from it.
In turn, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for African Affairs considered the meeting to be very fruitful, highlighting a better partnership between the Government of Angola and the United Nations in matters of peace and security in the region, which “may bring tangible results on the ground” to support existing regional initiatives.
Martha Pobee, who arrived on Sunday for her first visit to the country, was also received by President João Lourenço, with whom she particularly addressed the political situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the border conflict between Chad and the Central African Republic.
