Angola shares experience on energy transition at Government Summit in Dubai

The exchange of experience in matters of energy transition, mobility, population growth and the impact of climate change is marking Angola's participation in the 2023 World Summit of Governments, taking place in the city of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.

The Minister of State for the Social Area, Dalva Ringote, who heads the Angolan delegation participating in the event, said that there are common problems and challenges between the countries, mainly linked to energy transition.

According to the minister, Angola has begun an important path in the energy transition process and intends to consume 77 percent of clean energy by 2025. "It is a very important path that we have to take. mitigating the impact of climate change, especially in rural areas", he said.

The construction of the Cafu Water Transfer System, in Cunene province, is an example of what is being done by the Government in terms of reducing the impact of climate change, according to the official, quoted in a statement to which VerAngola had access.

"Now we are working – and with the current budget – to guarantee that the economy is created around this great infrastructure project, to guarantee that we can assist in the near future the exodus of the population from the province of Luanda, which is the capital and with a large number, of about 10 million inhabitants, to return to their areas of origin", he explained.

The Minister of State referred that this is a projection of the Government that requires a combination of policies and the integration of various sectors, so that they carry out work that will lead to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

On the other hand, Dalva Ringote also highlighted the approach to gender made at the summit, recalling that, from the point of view of occupying political positions, Angola has reached acceptable levels, in the context of SADC and the African Union.

"It is a very important step that our Executive and the leader, the President of the country, took, in equating, at all levels, women, who have been implementing a set of social policies", she stressed.

Angola's ambassador to the UAE, Albino Malungo, who was part of the delegation participating in the World Summit of Governments, defended the strengthening of cooperation relations between Angola and the United Arab Emirates, in the areas of energy and urbanism.

"We have to cooperate and interact with this country, in order to have, in fact, the solutions we want", he stressed, highlighting the importance of the exchange of experience between the two countries.

The summit, which started on Monday, ends this Wednesday and takes place under the motto "Shaping Future Governments". It aims to bring together Heads of State, Ministers, international, regional and governmental organizations, international experts and business leaders from the private sector to share visions and global strategic ideas for the future related to work, education, climate, technology, women in government , industry, among other themes.
