Progresso do Sambizanga players on strike due to salary delay

The players of the Progresso do Sambizanga football team have been on strike since Monday, due to wages overdue for more than 12 months, said the team's coach, Paulo Dias, this Wednesday, without giving further details.

Athletes also complain about bad working conditions, lack of decent food and delayed game prizes.

A club source told the Lusa agency that the athletes' meals are prepared in sheet metal tents, outside the club's sports complex, in the Sambizanga neighborhood, one of the best-known suburbs in Luanda, and are later taken in a wheelbarrow, situation that has made players sad.

The players promised not to travel to the province of Cabinda, where on Saturday they will face the local Sporting, in a game of the 20th round of the national football championship.

In October 2021, the players of Progresso do Sambizanga, the former Benfica forward Pedro Mantorras's training club, refused to train and threatened to strike for the same reason, but this did not materialize, after the club's management promised to resolve a problem that persists to date.

In Girabola, Progresso do Sambizanga occupies the penultimate position, with 13 points, with 11 days left for the end of this edition.
