Angola recorded 60 deaths and 229 injuries from road accidents in a week

In the last week, Angola recorded 60 deaths and 229 injuries in a total of 233 road accidents, the second leading cause of death in the country, after malaria, the National Police reported this Monday.

According to the Public Security Report, between the 28th of January and the 3rd of February, the country recorded an increase in the number of deaths, with 10 more deaths, and of accidents, with 19 more accidents, compared to the previous period, having reduced in the number of injured, with 27 fewer people.

As part of traffic inspection, 198 vehicles, 604 motorcycles, 947 driving licenses, 677 entries, 976 booklets and 606 property registration titles were seized, as well as 3,273 fines, valued at 12.5 million kwanzas.

In the period under review, the police detained 964 suspects, cleared up 819 crimes and seized 50 firearms of various calibers, of which 17 in Luanda, 12 in Cuanza Norte province, and four each in Huambo and Bié provinces.

Of the total number of detainees, 635 are presumed perpetrators of various crimes, 31 for homicide, 160 for robberies, 263 for theft, 149 for offenses to physical integrity, serious and simple, and 32 for sexual assault.

In the field of border protection, the police detained 2086 people, of which 2035 from the Democratic Republic of Congo, accompanied by 112 children, 16 Namibians and two Zambians, in addition to 33 nationals for smuggling fuel, illegal fishing, illicit trafficking of immigrants and smuggling of undeclared goods.
