A hundred deliveries are performed daily at the Lucrécia Paim maternity

The Lucrécia Paim maternity hospital performs a hundred deliveries a day. According to Manuela Mendes, director of that unit, of the 100 deliveries, about 40 percent are surgical deliveries, that is, cesarean sections.

The official indicated that most cesarean sections are performed on young people, since most of them still do not have a well-developed bone pelvis.

Cited by Angop, Manuela Mendes, who was speaking during a training seminar for traditional midwives, also made it known that around 250 women receive assistance at the emergency bank and that another 300 are assisted in external consultations.

The maternity director added that the health unit has 53 specialist doctors, but considered that human resources are not enough to meet the demand.

"The scarcity of human resources for women's health care is a reality in the country, but there is a great effort by the Executive to quickly improve this situation, so there is an acceleration in the training of technicians and an increase in staff", she said, cited by Angop.

In that sense, she made it known that about 174 doctors are receiving training in the specialty of obstetrics gynecology. In addition, 60 midwives and 60 anesthesia technicians are also undergoing training, with a view to creating improvements in the maternity activity.

"There was a considerable investment in the health area with the admission of new technicians and an increase in material and human resources and with this there is a decrease in maternal mortality, but there is still a long way to go", stressed Manuela Mendes.
