More than 30 health units are being built in Luanda as part of the PIIM

A total of 32 health units are being built in the capital, under the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM). These new infrastructures will join the 173 already existing in the province's health network.

The 32 new units, according to the Public Television of Angola (TPA), will help to improve the medical assistance provided to the population.

To learn about the major challenges of the sector in the capital, the governor of Luanda, Ana Paula de Carvalho, held a meeting with the managers of the health units and municipal administrators.

Among the main concerns is the shortage of human resources in the sector. In a note, made available on its Facebook page, the Provincial Government of Luanda (GPL) states that of the 410 nursing technicians admitted to the 2019 competition, 404 are already being placed in the respective health units, "while waiting for other competitions to fill the gap need of 4000 nurses".

"With a view to excelling in dialogue with the Union of Nurses and Doctors, a meeting was scheduled to clarify the claim book, and generate consensus", the statement said.

Regarding expendable means, with emphasis on laboratory reagents and hygiene materials, "they will be resolved immediately, taking into account their existence in stock".

In addition, the communiqué goes on to say that although there is "availability in sufficient quantities of anti-malarial drugs, with malaria being one of the main diseases that affect Luandans, at the meeting, it was also recommended to strengthen prevention actions against the disease, with recourse to fumigation and deposition of bio larvae in water ponds".

Manuel Varela, director of the provincial health office, quoted in the note, took the opportunity to mention that the supply of electricity, water and ambulance concerns "cross-cutting issues that do not depend on hospitals, so their resolution is pending consultation with respective sectors".

Ana Paula de Carvalho, at the end of the meeting, made the recommendation to work more and more to improve medical care: "We are working to find more and more solutions to improve health services in the province of Luanda and hence we want to be closer to all of you in order to improve what is the service in health centers, municipal hospitals, medical centers", he said, quoted by TPA.
