Sonangol predicts increase in crude oil processing capacity from 62 to 425 thousand barrels a day

Crude oil processing in the country can reach 425,000 barrels a day. In order to reduce the country's dependence on the import of refined products, Sonangol estimates to expand the internal capacity to process crude oil from 62 to 425 thousand barrels a day.

Gaspar Martins, chairman of the Board of Directors of Sonangol, for the period 2022/2030, the oil company will maintain its plan to expand its share of crude oil and natural gas production from two to 10 percent.

Cited by Angop, the official said that, for the period in question, the company also took a position to diversify its portfolio focusing on hydrocarbons, based on financing for the transition to cleaner energy.

A petrochemical plant and the production of 1000 megawatts of clean electricity are also part of the company's strategy. According to Angop, in this field, the flagship oil company already has some projects underway in the south of the country in collaboration with other operators.

Gaspar Martins also took the opportunity to mention that the company is trying to establish a percentage to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the refined production activity, among other initiatives.

It should be noted that imports of refined products, especially diesel and oil, reach approximately one billion metric tons per year.
