Hélder Pitta Grós says the fight against corruption is “incessant”

Hélder Pitta Grós, Attorney General of the Republic (PGR), considered that the fight against corruption is "incessant". Speaking at the end of the first balance sheet meeting of the Eastern Judiciary Region, the official also defended that “Angolan magistrates are more experienced in dealing with economic and financial crimes”.

"The PGR's intention in this fight is not to condemn people, but to allow justice to be done for the common good", he added.

Cited by Angop, the PGR also made it known that they remain "engaged in the fight against corruption, especially now that" they have gained more experience in dealing with this type of crimes and also "in the recovery of assets diverted from the public purse".

The focus of the Attorney General's Office is also the protection of minors as well as matters related to public procurement, he said.

Hélder Pitta Grós also spoke about the lack of staff, clarifying that this is a situation at the level of magistrates and justice technicians. This shortage has caused constraints in the dynamics of handling criminal cases, he said.

Thus, with a view to improving this scenario, a public tender is taking place to fill 450 vacancies for justice technicians, informed the PGR, who informed that in the case of magistrates the situation is more complicated because they have to have, after graduation in Law, a particular training at the National Institute of Legal Studies (INEJ).

"INEJ will start a course in March and only at the end of the year will the theoretical part be completed and then they will have another six months of practice, which means that only in 2024 will we have about 100 magistrates to join the Public Ministry", he informed, quoted by Angop.
