The information was provided by the spokesman of the Luanda Provincial Command of the Angolan police, Nestor Goubel, considering that it was an act of rebellion by motorcycle taxi drivers who did not even want to dialogue with the personnel posted there.
According to the police official, the events took place around 11:00 am local time, during which time the personnel serving in the municipal command of Cazenga, one of the most populous municipalities in Luanda, "were surprised by protest actions and the intention of invasion".
"The group of motorcycle taxi drivers in a gesture of rebellion wanted to recover their motorcycles seized by the traffic forces, assigned to the municipal command of Cazenga, due to the infractions that they have been committing", explained Nestor Goubel.
The non-use of helmets, the transport of "more than two people and the lack of documents" constitute the "main irregularities" of the motorcycle taxi drivers in Cazenga, a situation that contributed to the operation.
More than 80 motorcycles have already been seized by the Cazenga police command, as part of the operation aimed at "improving road traffic" in the municipality.
Nestor Goubel also said that, "as a containment measure, the local staff initially excelled in dialogue to try to appease the tempers, but the motorcycle taxi drivers, even knowing they were wrong, tried to invade the command".
"The officers, at no time, make use of weapons, but they opted for pedagogy to appease their tempers, but they also did not understand, an attitude that in no way endorses patriotism", he stressed.
"And as a result of these actions, 16 motorcycle taxi drivers were arrested for the presumed authorship of an attempt to invade the municipal command of Cazenga, with acts of rebellion in front of the command, with pushing at the gate", he explained.
The detainees will be referred to the Public Ministry "for summary judgment", assured Nestor Goubel.
