Violation of biosecurity measures in Girabola sanctioned with fines

The organizing committee of Girabola expresses "concern about the non-compliance" of prevention measures against covid-19 in stadiums by fans, admitting to apply fines and games behind closed doors.

In a statement made public and that the Lusa news agency had access this Wednesday, the Angolan Football Federation (FAF) says that "it has been verified, in some games of the championship, in a frequent way, the total non-compliance of the biosecurity standards by the organizing clubs and the public.

Since May 16 last year, the country has been in a situation of public calamity, whose ninth extension is in effect, aimed at containing the spread of covid-19.

The 43rd edition of the Angolan soccer championship started in the second half of December 2020, and the public returned to the stadiums only on January 18, 2021, limited to 10 percent of the maximum capacity of the venue.

The physical distance and the mandatory use of face masks by the public are among the provisions of the presidential decree on the situation of public calamity in the country.

In the statement, the FAF urges the organizers of the games to ensure compliance with the measures to prevent covid-19, or, notes, "will be subject to fines and, in case of recurrence, the sanction will be aggravated.

According to the same source, holding games behind closed doors may be one of the penalties.

The Girabola 2020/21, led by Petro de Luanda, with 19 points, plays this Wednesday the 11th round.

Interclube, second in the race and coached by the Portuguese Ivo Campos, receives at the stadium 22 de Junho, in Luanda, the Sagrada Esperança.

The 1.º de Agosto, four-time champion and led by Portuguese Paulo Duarte, faces, at 11 de Novembro, the Académica de Lobito. The 'Augustinos' have seven games in arrears.
