This Thursday, the Angolan police prevented a demonstration by young activists who wanted to “demand political alternation” in Angola, at Cemitério Santana, in Luanda.

On the site there is a large police device with various means, including canine brigade and cavalry, and barricades of tires were set on fire on the roads, with fire services called out to extinguish the fire.

The purposes and motivations of this march, which was to culminate at 100 meters from the presidential palace, were presented this week at a press conference in Luanda by a group of young activists from the so-called Contestary Civil Society.

"45 Years is a lot, MPLA out" is the motto of the demonstration scheduled for this Thursday, a national holiday in Angola, in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Day of the Beginning of the National Liberation Struggle.

"We understand that 45 years of governance is a long time and, over that time, the MPLA has done almost nothing, on the contrary, it has worsened, with various social asymmetries, toasted the people with serial killings, unemployment, health and education with deficits, with corruption and other ills ", said on Wednesday the activist and one of the organizers of the march, Geraldo Dala.

According to the activist, the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) "no longer has anything to give to the country", considering it to be "a failed political project in Angola whose purpose of its leaders is only to maintain power".

Geraldo Dala said that this is the second demonstration that the movement organizes aiming to "awaken Angolans" and, on the other hand, "to show that the people want political alternation", referring that the protest must also take place in other provinces.

The activists gathered at 10 am, in the square of the cemetery of Santa Ana, and intended to march even close to the presidential palace, in Cidade Alta, in Luanda.

According to an activist, the Luanda provincial government was informed about this march.

The demonstration was scheduled on the same day as the national holiday in Angola, February 4, which will be officially marked in Bengo province in a ceremony under the motto: "Preserve and Honor the Memory of the Heroes of the Angolan Motherland".
