"It was with deep pain and consternation that the UNITA parliamentary group learned of the death of parliamentarian Victorino Nhany, which occurred on February 20 in Luanda, due to illness," said a statement released on Sunday.

The parliamentary group also noted the "intellectual verticality and firmness in the principles" of Victorino Nhany, a member of parliament since 2012, as well as his contribution to the "building of the democratic state and the rule of law, having proudly carried out his mission as a representative of the people" in the National Assembly, where he served as vice-chairman of the fourth Specialized Working Committee on Administration and Local Government.

"He was one of the precursors of the fight against political intolerance, as Provincial Secretary of Benguela, at the time the scene of the most vile political disputes," says UNITA.

An agricultural engineer by training, Victorino Nhany, besides being UNITA's secretary-general, held several positions, such as secretary of Agriculture, provincial secretary in Benguela, and secretary of the Presidency for Electoral Affairs.
