Opposition accuses MPLA of intending to plunge Angola into chaos

UNITA, Bloco Democrático and the opposition PRA-JA Servir Angola project accused the MPLA of “intending to plunge Angola into chaos, compromising political and socio-economic conquests”, lamenting the “crisis and the limitation of freedoms”.

:

The position was expressed at a press conference by Adalberto da Costa Júnior, president of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), Justino Pinto de Andrade, president of the Democratic Bloc, and Abel Chivukuvuku, project coordinator of the Angola Renaissance Party - Together for Angola - Servir Angola (PRA-JA Servir Angola).

In the declaration, political organizations say that "they are following with concern the tendency of the party in power to plunge the country into chaos, jeopardizing political, social and economic achievements".

Angola "knows its deepest social and economic crisis created by the wrong policies imposed on Angolans by the executive and the governing party", a crisis that, the parties say, "is being worsened by a severe drought that can cause the generalization of the hunger and malnutrition ".

According to these formations, the party's actions in the Government "further deepen the economic and social crisis, the unstoppable corruption at all levels practiced by public servants from the bottom to the top".

Corruption, they point out, "creates difficulties for companies, citizens and foreign investors, a situation that discredits the State" and, attacked selectively, "feels comforted and continues to act".

They therefore advocate that "high authority against corruption and impunity" be "created urgently", "independent and subtracted from party control", and ask the executive to "review its anti-corruption strategy and not fall asleep. in the recovery of failed projects ".

For UNITA, Bloco Democrático and PRA-JA Servir Angola, the current crisis in the country takes place at a time when liberties "are limited and citizens are killed simply because they went out into the street, without weapons, to demand your rights ".

"In view of the repeated injustices and the clear regression of the democratic process led by the Government party, there is an urgent need to give greater impetus to the struggle of Angolans for the real democratization of the country and for an effective political culture that respects the life and dignity of Angolans", they urge.

The signatories to the declaration also manifest their "frank and resolute predisposition" to integrate and coordinate, what they call "a common effort participated by all patriotic, singular and collective forces to change the situation in Angola".

In this joint statement, party leaders also condemned what they consider to be "acts of terror" carried out in Cafunfo, where incidents occurred with deaths and injuries, stating that they translate into the MPLA regime's inability to build democracy and unity in nation".

With "such extremism and the consequent accusation that there would have been an armed rebellion in Cafunfo", they stress, the Government intends to implement a strategy that aims to create a climate of terror and generalized chaos in the country to find scapegoats or justifications of your failures ".

Cafunfo's "tragic events", they claim, constitute a "serious threat to peace, national reconciliation and stability, as well as to the deepening of respect for human rights", asking the President, João Lourenço, to "put an end to these attitudes antipatriotic ".

"The wave of persecution and the hunt for men in Cafunfo and across the country immediately ceases," they argue, also calling for "the release of all political prisoners in the different municipalities of Lundas".
