Covid-19: Africa with 473 more dead and 14,642 infected in the last 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, Africa recorded a further 473 deaths from covid-19 for a total of 99,840 deaths, and 14,642 new cases of infection, according to the most recent official pandemic data on the continent.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), the total number of infected in the 55 member states of the organization is 3,783,214 and that of recovered in the last 24 hours is 15,425, for one total of 3,332,632 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,795,281 infected and 54,432 dead. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, has 1,496,439 cases and 48,478 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,136,957 infected and 31,762 fatalities.

East Africa accounts for 384,719 infections and 7265 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 369,860 and that of deaths is 4680.

Central Africa has 96,397 cases and 1695 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 10,150 deaths and 175,677 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8517 fatalities and 479,579 cases.

Among the countries most affected are also Tunisia, with 7661 deaths and 225,116 cases, Algeria, with 2949 deaths and 111,115 infected, and Ethiopia, with 2,237 fatalities and 149,308 infections.

In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique recorded 561 deaths and 52,629 cases, followed by Angola (496 deaths and 20,400 cases of infection), Cape Verde (141 deaths and 14,848 cases), Equatorial Guinea (88 deaths and 5747 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (46 dead and 2999 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (20 killed and 1535 cases).
