According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), in the last 24 hours there have been 9,406 more infected, while those recovered are now 3,317,207 (another 13,979).

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,789,875 infected and 54,186 killed. South Africa alone, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, has 1,494,119 cases and 48,313 deaths.
North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,134,529 infected and 31,658 fatalities.

East Africa accounts for 383,135 infections and 7232 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 366,177 and that of deaths is 4623.

Central Africa has 94,856 cases and 1668 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 10,101 deaths and 175,059 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8504 fatalities and 479,071 cases.

Among the six most affected countries are also Algeria, with 2947 deaths and 110,977 cases, Ethiopia, with 2223 fatalities and 148,490 infections, and Kenya, with 1797 deaths and 103,188 infected.

Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique recorded 551 deaths and 51,800 cases, followed by Angola (494 deaths and 20,329 cases of infection), Cape Verde (140 deaths and 14,785 cases), Equatorial Guinea (87 deaths and 5694 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (46 dead and 2940 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (19 killed and 1520 cases).

The first case of covid-19 in Africa emerged in Egypt on 14 February 2020, and Nigeria was the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to report cases of infection on 28 February.
