Africa with 350 more dead and 11,087 infected with covid-19 in the last 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, Africa recorded an additional 350 deaths from covid-19 for a total of 95,075 deaths, and 11,087 new cases of infection, according to the latest official pandemic data on the continent.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), the total number of infected in the 55 member states of the organization is 3,667,546 and that of recovered in the last 24 hours is 28,105, for one total of 3,192,561 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,748,941 infected and 51,566 killed. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, has 1,476,135 cases and 46,290 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,111,951 infected and 30,561 fatalities.

East Africa accounts for 370,325 infections and 7005 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 344,675 and the number of deaths is 4302.

Central Africa has 91,654 cases and 1641 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, registers 9651 deaths and 169,640 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8394 fatalities and 475,355 cases.

Among the six most affected countries are Algeria, with 2916 deaths and 108,996 cases, Ethiopia, with 2148 fatalities and 142,338 infections, and Kenya, with 1779 deaths and 101,819 infected.

In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola has 475 deaths and 20,086 cases of infection, followed by Mozambique (460 deaths and 44,600 cases), Cape Verde (135 deaths and 14,423 cases), Equatorial Guinea (87 deaths and 5614 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (46 dead and 2780 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (18 killed and 1346 cases).
