Africa with 703 more dead and 14,644 infected with covid-19 in the last 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, Africa recorded an additional 703 deaths from covid-19 for a total of 93,071 deaths, and 14,644 new cases of infection, according to the latest official pandemic data on the continent.

According to the African Union's Disease Control and Prevention Center (Africa CDC), the total number of infected people in the organization's 55 member states is 3,609,519 and the number of recovered in the last 24 hours is 39,879, for one total of 3,114,033 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,723,341 infected and 50,333 killed. South Africa, the country hardest hit by covid-19 on the continent, has 1,463,016 cases and 45,344 deaths.
North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,099,278 infected and over 30,000 fatalities (30,009).

East Africa accounts for 364,810 infections and 6943 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 332,686 and that of deaths is 4160. In Central Africa, 89,404 cases and 1626 deaths are recorded.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, registers 9460 deaths and 167,525 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8323 fatalities and 473,047 cases.

Among the six most affected countries are Algeria, with 2902 deaths and 108,024 cases, Ethiopia, with 2122 fatalities and 139,408 infections, and Kenya, with 1769 deaths and 101,159 infected.

In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola recorded 470 deaths and 19,937 cases of infection, followed by Mozambique (415 deaths and 41,433 cases), Cape Verde (135 deaths and 14,214 cases), Equatorial Guinea (86 deaths and 5534 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (45 deaths and 2662 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (17 deaths and 1283 cases of infection).
