Covid-19: Africa with 844 more dead and 15,507 infected in the last 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, Africa recorded an additional 844 deaths from covid-19 for a total of 92,368 deaths, and 15,507 new cases of infection, according to the latest official pandemic data on the continent.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), the total number of infected in the 55 member states of the organization is 3,594,875 and the number of recovered is 24,129, for a total of 3,074. 154 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,715,854 infected and 49,849 killed. South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, has 1,458,958 cases and 44,946 deaths.
North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,095,854 infected and 29,834 fatalities.

East Africa accounts for 363,774 infections and 6922 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 330,592 and that of deaths is 4139. In Central Africa, 89,045 cases and 1,624 deaths are recorded.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, registers 9,407 deaths and 167,013 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8,309 fatalities and 472,273 cases.

Among the six most affected countries are Algeria, with 2900 deaths and 107,749 cases, Ethiopia, with 2116 fatalities and 138,861 infections, and Kenya, with 1766 deaths and 101,009 infected.

Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola recorded 468 deaths and 19,900 cases of infection, followed by Mozambique (403 deaths and 40,260 cases), Cape Verde (134 deaths and 14,152 cases), Equatorial Guinea (86 deaths and 5534 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (45 dead and 2655 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (17 killed and 1283 cases of infection).
