Country with two more deaths and 71 cases of covid-19 in 24 hours

The country added two deaths and 71 new cases of covid-19 in 24 hours, as well as 52 recoveries, announced this Tuesday the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda.

Of the new cases, 29 were registered in Luanda province, 27 in Cabinda, eight in Zaire, three in Bié, two in Benguela, one in Lunda Sul and one in Namibe, aged between 4 and 79, 47 male and 24 female, Franco Mufinda detailed in a statement.

According to health authorities, two deaths were recorded - one Angolan 68 and one Chinese 56, both in Luanda.

Fifty-two people were considered recovered from the disease, 28 in Luanda, 13 in Kwanza Sul, seven in Moxico, two in Lunda Sul, one in Bié and one in Lunda Norte, aged between 1 and 70.

Angola now has a total of 19,900 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, including 468 deaths, 18,232 recovered, and 1200 active.

Among the active cases, five are in critical condition and eight in severe condition.

The laboratories processed 664 samples, out of a cumulative 363,104 samples with a positivity rate of 5.5 percent.

The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 2,237,990 deaths from more than 103.3 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.

According to the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), the number of infected in this continent since the beginning of the pandemic is 3,579,368 and the number of deaths 91,524.

The first case of covid-19 in Africa emerged in Egypt on February 14, and Nigeria was the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to register cases of infection on February 28.

Covid-19 is a respiratory disease caused by a coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
