New Chitato thermal power plant goes into operation next month

According to the responsible, the municipality of Chitato needs to have a capacity of about 20 megawatts so that the restrictions that have been registered in recent months disappear.

João Borges explained, quoted by Angop, that Chitato currently has a deficit of eight megawatts, but this should cease to exist with the entry of the new plant into operation.

The new Chitato thermal power plant, composed of nine generating groups capable of generating 14 megawatts of electricity, will be an alternative while waiting for the conclusion of the Luachimo dam, capable of generating 34 megawatts of energy, he said.

"The need at the moment is about 18 megawatts. If we manage to conclude the installation of the new plant, which will be interconnected with the old one that currently produces below ten megawatts, by March, we will have 20 megawatts available for Chitato," he said.

Around 17,950 clients - 13,250 in postpaid system and 4700 in prepaid - benefit from the energy generated by the current Chitato thermal power plant.

As for the water sector in Lunda Norte province, he stressed that advances have been made in infrastructure, which has led to an expansion of the distribution network.

He also emphasized that commercial agencies have been created that will help to increase revenues and advised the Public Water and Sanitation Company to continue implementing measures that will make the sector viable.

The holder of the Energy and Water portfolio is carrying out a visit to Lunda Norte, where he will inaugurate five infrastructures: on Monday, the minister inaugurated two water distribution systems in the municipalities of Lucapa and Chitato and a water quality analysis laboratory. He will also travel to Cuilo, Lubao and Xá-muteba to inaugurate three water systems.
