Angolan civil society and San Tomean exchange experiences on public finance

Representatives of four San Tomean civil society organizations will be in Angola between Tuesday and Friday to share information with their counterparts in the area of public finance monitoring.

:

The aim is to get to know the work that has been done by civil society organisations and state actors in Angola's public finance management systems and to have access to case studies and good practices in this country, according to the European Union delegation in Angola.

The delegates of the San Tomean organizations Webeto, Center for Public Integrity, Federation of Non-Governmental Organizations of Sao Tome and Principe and Platform for Human Rights and Gender Equality will be received by their counterparts Council of Christian Churches in Angola (CICA), Action for Rural Development and Environment (ADRA) and Platform for Women in Action (PMA).

The initiative is promoted by the Programme for the Consolidation of Economic Governance and Public Finance Management Systems in Portuguese-speaking African Countries and East Timor (PALOP-TL), which aims to improve economic governance in these Portuguese-speaking countries, with 7.7 million euros of European funding administered directly by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The work programme includes meetings with CICA, ADRA, LDCs and other organisations that also work in the field of social monitoring of the General State Budget.

The Sao Tome and Principe delegation will also have the opportunity to attend the regular session of the National Assembly.

"Civil society plays a key role in the process of monitoring public finances," and its participation is "widely recognized and promoted, as a privileged partner of the higher institutions of control, supervision and the executive," the same note stresses.
