Angola introduces international barcode by the end of March

The president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Angola (CCIA), revealed that the implementation of the international barcode in the country already has legs to walk, stating that until March 31 the CCIA will enroll in the Global Standard One (GS1) - the system of identification and codification of goods and services most used in the world.

:

By the end of last year, the Secretary of State for the Economy had already revealed that the bar code to identify products resulting from national production would be implemented in the country during the first quarter of 2020. It is now known that the process is already able to move forward and is only waiting for Angola's registration in GS1, which should be completed by the end of next month.

The implementation of the most used bar code in the world will help Angola's trade with other countries.

According to Jornal de Angola, the request for the adoption of this system is nothing new: the Ministry of Economy and Planning had already asked GS1, in 2014, for Angola to become part of the list of countries to use this code. However, the institution demanded that our country meet some requirements to be part of the list, refusing the request until the requirements were met.

Among the list of requirements, writes the same newspaper, was the collection of at least 500 signatures from operators and producers and even that the process was embraced by a national company and not by the State.

He also revealed that an association, called Codiango, has been working on the requirements of GS1.

Until the application is accepted, products catalogued with foreign barcodes, even if produced in Angola, will continue to be classified as imported products. Once the application is approved, during the transition phase, products will be catalogued with a domestic and a foreign barcode. At the end of this phase, the products will have only one code, the international bar code.
