They are military, politicians and businessmen, holders of luxury properties and investments in Portugal. It is on these cases that the request for cooperation made at a meeting in Lisbon between Hélder Pitta Grós, Attorney General of the Republic of Angola and Lucília Gago, his Portuguese counterpart, is considered.
The information is advanced by the Portuguese newspaper Jornal Económico, which refers to having been requested by the Angolan side to support the localization of assets of Angolan personalities who have real estate, securities investments and bank accounts in Portugal.
A judicial source revealed that the request for cooperation was made on the 23rd of January, at a meeting held in the Portuguese capital between Hélder Pitta Grós and Lucília Gago. The meeting was also attended by Eduarda Rodrigues, director of the Asset Recovery Service of the Angolan PGR. The official will have taken several files to this meeting, referring to criminal proceedings against national citizens who diverted public funds to the State.
It should be remembered that the list of names advanced by the Portuguese media includes Higino Carneiro, a general who has held positions as vice president of the National Assembly, Governor of the provinces of Luanda, Cuando Cubango and Kwanza Sul, minister of Public Works and deputy. There is also the name of Manuel António Rabelais, former Minister of Social Communication and spokesman for the Government of José Eduardo dos Santos. Joaquim Sebastião, former director of the National Roads Institute, is also being investigated by the PGR.
