First regional flights to begin operating from António Agostinho Neto airport in February

Starting early next month, António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN) will begin operating the first regional passenger flights. According to TAAG, these are regional services for the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (Kinshasa).

According to the flag carrier, in addition to the aforementioned regional routes, domestic flights from Lubango, Catumbela, Huambo, Cuito, Menongue, Namibe and Ondjiva will also be added to the flight schedule operated at the new airport.

The company explains that this transition is part of the third phase of the process of gradually transferring commercial passenger flights from the old airport (February 4) to AIAAN.

"TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola announces the beginning of the third phase of the process of gradual transfer of commercial passenger flights operated by the company, from the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport in Luanda, to the Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport, located in Icolo and Bengo, with the transition of regional services from the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville), Democratic Republic of Congo (Kinshasa), as well as domestic connections from Lubango, Catumbela, Huambo, Cuito (Bié), Menongue (Cubango), Namibe and Ondjiva (Cunene), whose destinations will be added to the general schedule of flights based on AIAAN, starting Saturday, February 1, 2025", informs the national airline, in a statement sent to VerAngola.

Highlighting the incorporation, for the first time, of regional routes at the new airport, the company says that "these regional connections will activate the procedures, teams and services related to international flights, increasing the level of compliance of the various multisectoral entities that operate in the airport ecosystem".

"The adoption of this methodology is aligned with best practices in change management in civil aviation, allowing stakeholders to optimize their responsiveness before the full transfer of flights to AIAAN, that is, the intercontinental routes, and those with the highest traffic, which will migrate to Dr. António Agostinho Neto, at the end of the first quarter of 2025, according to ministerial order", says the note.

The company therefore reaffirms that, in February, all its domestic destinations will be based at the new airport, together with regional services in the Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The company also reiterates "its commitment to establishing and consolidating Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport as the hub of its operations and connectivity, to the same extent that the transfer to AIAAN is aligned with the company's objectives, in around improving the service provided to the customer".

It is worth remembering that the new airport opened on November 10th last year, with flights on the Luanda-Cabinda route.
