Public sector salary increase awaits approval from the President

The increase in public sector salaries is pending approval by the President of the Republic. The document relating to the general principles concerning the organization and application of the indicative structure of salary scales, subsidies and remuneration supplements for the public sector was assessed this Tuesday at the first session of the year of the Council of Ministers, which recommended the Head of State to approve the project.

The Government, in a statement to which VerAngola had access, explains that the document related to the salary increase for public employees is awaiting the 'green light' from the President of the Republic.

"The draft Presidential Legislative Decree that establishes the general principles relating to the organization and application of the indicative structure of salary scales, subsidies and remuneration supplements for public servants awaits approval by the Head of the Executive Branch", reads the statement.

This document was one of the points considered, at the meeting this Tuesday, by the Council of Ministers, which "recommended to the President of the Republic its approval, using the Legislative Authorization granted to him by the National Assembly".

"The Executive considers the increase in basic salaries for public servants essential to reestablish the purchasing power of civil servants, enhance their dignity and guarantee better services to citizens," the note also states.

In addition, the Council of Ministers also analyzed and recommended the increase of base salaries "for all groups of personnel, including holders of management and leadership positions, technicians, personnel of defense and security agencies, among other workers, respecting the limit defined in the General State Budget" for this year.

Among other points, the session also served for the body to assess the "draft Presidential Decree that grants the national concessionaire the mining rights for prospecting, research, development and production of liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons in the KON15 block", says the statement, which adds that the decree also approves the "production sharing contract signed between the national concessionaire and the Contractor Group of block KON15, composed of Sonangol, Exploração e Produção, S.A. and AFRENTA (Angola) Limitada".

It is worth remembering that, at the beginning of this month, it was announced that the Government would pay a salary adjustment of around 25 percent to civil servants until the end of March, with retroactive payments for the first two months of this year.

At the time, the unions responded to this position, informing that the workers would decide, in provincial assemblies, in February, the position to be adopted, if the Government maintained this decision.
