The decision was ordered in Presidential Order No. 23/25 of 16 January, signed by João Lourenço.
The project includes the rehabilitation of the bridge and improvements to the access road, covering a total of 25 kilometres, at a cost to the State coffers of 146 million kwanzas. The inspection services are estimated at 18 million kwanzas.
The decision follows the collapse of the metal structure of the 15-metre bridge - in December 2023 - due to the heavy rains that hit the region, which caused significant erosion and widened the riverbed, resulting in the total interruption of road traffic, aggravated by the critical condition of a 25-kilometre section of the access road, still on dirt. It should be noted that the bridge only allowed the passage of one vehicle at a time.
The order delegates to the Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing the power to approve the procedural documents, ensure the legality of administrative acts and conclude the contracts necessary for the execution of the works.
The financial resources for the execution of the works will be provided by the Ministry of Finance, through the Road and Emergency Works Fund (FROE). In addition, the project will be included in the Public Investment Programme.
