The forces deployed to ensure security during New Year's Eve in the country recorded 137 different crimes during this period, a reduction of 17 crimes compared to the same period last year, and preventively detained 184 citizens under suspicion.
According to the Director of Public Security and Operations of the General Command of the Angolan National Police, Commissioner Orlando Bernardo, the force recorded six homicides, three sexual assaults, 26 assaults on physical integrity, 11 fewer than in the same period last year, 30 robberies and 52 thefts during the transition period.
Luanda, Bié, Huíla and Malanje were the provinces with the highest crime rates.
Orlando Bernardo, who was presenting the situation regarding the New Year's Eve security at a press conference, also reported that 28 road accidents were recorded, resulting in three deaths, 16 fewer than in the same period last year, and 29 injuries.
Firefighters recorded 55 incidents, resulting in 10 deaths, six by drowning, one by falling trees, two by suicide and one by traffic accident.
The Migration and Foreigners Service, "in its task of keeping Angola's borders inviolable", recorded the entry of 5013 citizens, the departure of more than 6000 citizens and the administrative expulsion of 31 citizens.
The senior police officer also stressed that the public security situation in the country, in general terms, "is stable, safe and calm".
"The New Year was characterised by an atmosphere of social peace, with low crime rates compared to the transition from 2023/2024, when there was a reduction of around 17 percent in crimes", concluded the police officer.
