João Lourenço posted the message on his social media page to mark the Day of Peace and Reconciliation in Africa.
"We continue to observe, with great sadness, a dangerous tendency to lightly set aside the values of African brotherhood and solidarity and to act against the interests of Africa and its peoples, creating factors of instability and insecurity, by neglecting the strength and importance of dialogue and diplomatic solutions as the only acceptable way to dissipate tensions and avoid wars that generate and aggravate poverty, associated with the enormous mass of displaced people and refugees that result from this", highlighted the Head of State.
The President says that the "bad examples of this reprehensible conduct in Africa" place their mentors in the less glorious pages of Africa "as the promoters of condemnable human tragedies."
He therefore urged leaders whose direct or indirect involvement is capable of making a difference, "to work towards peace and reconciliation on the African continent", particularly in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRCongo), Sudan and the region of Sahel.
The Chief Executive has acted as a mediator between Rwanda and the DR Congo in efforts to bring peace to eastern DR Congo, where the conflict has intensified in recent days.
João Lourenço highlights that the "founding fathers" of African nationalism fought for a united and prosperous Africa, after gaining independence, seeing "with great concern" that, six decades after the beginning of the self-determination of the African peoples, the continent faces complex challenges arising from in part of armed conflicts.
Addressing his "African brothers and sisters", the Head of State called for reflection on the path taken and the challenges they continue to face, so that differences can be put aside and a path can be built that leads to peace, stability and security.
