According to Luís Fernando, Secretary of Institutional Communication and Press for the President of the Republic, João Lourenço will work this Saturday in the capital of Uganda.

The purpose of this trip to Kampala is to "participate in an extraordinary African Union summit dedicated to agricultural development in Africa," he explained.

"More than just participating, the Angolan head of state will be the leader who will direct the summit meeting of the continental political organization, given his role as first vice-president of the African Union assembly, in a kind of antechamber of what is to come, because (...) from next February the President of the Republic of Angola will be at the head of the African Union (...)", said Luís Fernando, quoted in a video released by CIPRA and to which VerAngola had access.

Luís Fernando reinforced that the President of the Republic will be in Kampala on Saturday, "leading an extraordinary African summit that will debate agriculture, rural development, water and the environment".

João Lourenço has already left the country, and the Vice President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, as well as other entities, resigned from the Head of State at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, is also in Kampala, where he arrived on Thursday afternoon, to participate in the Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union on the Integrated Programme for the Development of Agriculture in Africa (PIDAA) Post Malabo.

Upon arrival, Téte António was accompanied by Ana Paula Carvalho, Minister of the Environment. In addition to these ministers, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Isaac dos Anjos, is also in Kampala.

The extraordinary summit began on Thursday and a meeting of African foreign and agriculture ministers is scheduled for this Friday.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to which VerAngola had access, "the event will review the Memorandum of Angola's Participation in the Ministerial Sessions on PIDAA, the PIDAA Strategy Project and Action Plan for the period 2026-2036 and the PIDAA Draft Kampala Declaration on Building Resilient and Sustainable Agri-Food Systems in Africa".
