According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, to which VerAngola had access, the meeting, which took place on Monday afternoon at the Palácio da Cidade Alta, served to assess the situation and to try to find quick responses to combat the disease.
"The purpose of the meeting was to assess the situation on the ground, assess the modus operandi in containing the outbreak (which has cases registered in the provinces of Luanda, Bengo and Icolo e Bengo) and find quick ways of acting, overcoming possible constraints", the statement reads.
On the occasion, the President of the Republic gave guidelines to put a stop to the spread of cholera.
"The Head of State gave precise guidelines for prompt implementation, taking into account the need to halt the risk of the disease spreading to other regions as soon as possible, mobilising the appropriate resources and in the size that the situation requires, whatever their nature (financial, human, equipment, etc.)", the statement also states.
It should be noted that this Monday, the Minister of Health announced the installation of rehydration stations and cholera treatment centers in the neighborhoods most affected by the disease.
To date, the country has recorded a total of 18 deaths, with 224 cases of cholera reported.
