CAN2023: federation wants to prevent companies from contacting national team players

The Angolan Football Federation (FAF) called on companies this Monday to refrain from directly contacting the national team players to avoid distractions that compromise the team's performance in the African Cup of Nations (CAN2023).

The FAF statement comes after videos were released in which administrators from telecommunications operators and banks contacted players to offer prizes and money in case they qualified for the semi-finals of the competition taking place in Côte d'Ivoire.

The wave of phone calls to the players of the Angolan football team under the orders of Portuguese coach Pedro Gonçalves began after the victory of the 'Palancas Negras', in the round of 16, against Namibia, which, for the body responsible for Angolan football, could distract the athletes and technical team, in a period that requires maximum concentration.

"The Angolan Football Federation expresses its sincere gratitude for the generous support of everyone who has shown solidarity and support for the national team, so the promises of offers are important, as they motivate the players and the working group in However, direct contact with the players, during a period of maximum concentration, to present offers or incentives distracts and takes away, to a large extent, the concentration of the national team", reads the FAF statement.

In this sense, the Angolan federation, which thanked the support and solidarity that has been provided to the Angolan team as a result of qualifying for the 'eighth' and then for the 'fourths' of CAN2023, called on anyone who wants to support to contact the FAF directly.

In the quarter-finals, Angola will face Nigeria, coached by José Peseiro, on Friday, at 5 pm, in Abidjan, leaving them one step away from an unprecedented qualification for the semi-finals.
