CAN2023: Angolan players happy and motivated with progress to the next phase

Angolan footballers were pleased with Angola's qualification for the quarter finals of the African Cup of Nations (CAN2023), after the 3-0 victory over Namibia. The captain of the national team, Freddy, began by expressing joy and expressed that the group is prepared for the game against Nigeria.

:

"We are happy with our qualification and psychologically motivated for the next game, despite our tiredness, but we have professionals who will help us recover," he said.

Winger Gelson Dala, who scored twice in the match and has already represented Sporting and Rio Ave, was a happy athlete. "Even playing with one less, we managed to galvanize ourselves, despite the moment of unhappiness, but we got up and turned things around," he said.

Remember that the striker was considered 'Man of the Match' for the second time in the competition, after just four games played, with the same number of goals scored (4).

Inácio Miguel expressed the joy that permeates the Angolan resort: "We are all euphoric, because it is a historic moment and we are very proud, as the group has been working very well".

Angola, under the command of Portuguese coach Pedro Gonçalves, will face Nigeria, led by compatriot José Peseiro, in the quarter-finals, this Friday, in Abidjan, in a duel between Portuguese coaches.

The two teams meet again in the competition 19 years later, with a theoretical advantage for the Nigerians, despite the fact that in the last two clashes, in 2005, during the qualifying phase for the Germany2006 World Cup, the Angolans won 1-0, in the first leg, on Angolan territory, and tied (1-1) as visitors.

On the Angolan side, the moment should serve to, once again, Pedro Gonçalves' team reaffirm their good form in CAN2023, unlike José Peseiro's pupils who, four games later, have still not convinced the African continent.

Angola qualified for the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations (CAN2023), as a result of Saturday's 3-0 defeat of Namibia, while Nigeria beat Cameroon 2-0.
