"We are here, at this ceremony, to swear in the venerable advisor judge who replaces another advisor judge of the Constitutional Court, who is leaving at the end of his term", the head of state began by saying.
According to João Lourenço, the new judge "has the responsibility of replacing someone who, for at least seven years, gave the best he could to the service of Justice in the Constitutional Court".
Thus, he said that João Carlos António Paulino is expected to "do, at least, the same or better" than the previous judge.
"We hope that he will do, at least, the same or better than the venerable judge who has just left for the reasons already mentioned," he stated.
The President also took the opportunity to mention that throughout the year there would be no other replacements due to the end of the mandate.
"I believe that, throughout the year, there will be other situations of replacement, at the end of the mandate. But then, in due time, the bodies and institutions that are responsible for presenting candidates will do so and, then, I will fulfill my role of nominating and swearing in", he said.
In his speech, João Lourenço also wished "very successful wishes" in the roles that the new judge will now assume.
The inauguration ceremony of João Carlos António Paulino – appointed last Friday – took place at the Presidential Palace and was attended by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, among other figures.
