Neonatal ambulance in Lunda Norte has been out of service for four years because there are no doctors

The neonatal ambulance in Lunda Norte has been out of service for four years due to the fact that there are no specialist doctors. According to Gimi Nhunga, director of the Provincial Health Office in the province of Lunda Norte, local authorities are trying to find a response to the problem and, thus, make the vehicle available to the population.

The person in charge considered that the ambulance – which is equipped to assist pregnant women, babies, among others – could be a solution in the absence of services in hospitals. Thus, cited by Angop, Gimi Nhunga explained that if there are no special services in municipal hospital units, the vehicle can provide specialized services, serving as an intensive treatment unit.

According to the director, local authorities are trying to find a response and, thus, make this vehicle available to citizens.

In this sense, he added that the National Institute of Medical Emergencies of Angola has already been contacted, with the aim of training some professionals in the field of advanced basic and neonatal support, writes Angop.

The ambulance – which the General State Inspectorate recently recovered and returned to the Provincial Health Office – has an incubator, oxygen administration, intubation and ventilation system, as well as a vital signs monitor.

Among other aspects, according to Angop, it is also worth highlighting the fact that it understands all the necessary instruments to prevent major complications for pregnant women or babies, in relation to the transport of patients or newborns.
