Activist Laurinda Gouveia acquitted by Luanda court of the crime of disobedience

The Provincial Court of Luanda "Dona Ana Joaquina" acquitted, on Friday, the Angolan activist Laurinda Gouveia accused of the crimes of insulting sovereign bodies and disobeying the dispersal order, lawyer Zola Bambi told Lusa.

:

Laurinda Gouveia was arrested following an attempted march for freedom of expression and freedom of political prisoners in Angola, in protest against the detention of some activists and a digital influencer, with the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights as its point of arrival, an act which was attended by four people.

Zola Bambi stressed that in addition to Laurinda Gouveia, her husband was also tried, also acquitted, who accompanied her on the aforementioned march and was taken to a police station.

The lawyer stated that he was unable to defend Laurinda Gouveia, whose trial ended at 11pm on Friday, because on the morning of that day there was a police presence at his home, who took him to a police station, where they addressed issues that they had nothing to do with the events, which he considered "tricks".

Zola Bambi expressed himself "very apprehensive" about the situation, considering the presence of seven police officers, including criminal investigation, public order and "undercover" agents at his residence, at his residence as abnormal, and then "not talking about criminal matters" .

The lawyer said that he was released only when the activist's trial had already begun.

According to the lawyer, the group obeyed the order to disperse given by the police and the activist was arrested when she was already walking towards the taxi stop, having spent the night at a police station.

"The child [the couple's son] also slept at the police station, they just didn't see who or how with him, and they only had access to the boy the next day," said the lawyer.
